Strengthening Community Resilience in Xe Bang Hieng River Basin
The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project has been making significant strides in strengthening climate resilience and sustainable water management in the Xe Bang Hieng and Luang Prabang watersheds. Since its launch in November 2022, the project has focused on improving water security, conserving ecosystems, and supporting local communities in adapting to climate challenges. Through collaborative efforts, we are working to ensure the sustainable use of water resources while enhancing livelihoods in the region.
In a recent update, Mr. Inpasit Sihalath, Deputy Director of the Water Resources and Meteorology Department of Savannakhet Province and Provincial Coordinator of the IWRM-EbA Project Office, shared key developments in the project. He highlighted the implementation of 11 major activities, including land allocation to promote responsible land use, groundwater drilling to improve water access, and the installation of solar-powered water pumps for more efficient irrigation in target districts. These initiatives are crucial in securing water resources for local communities, reducing their vulnerability to climate-related challenges, and fostering long-term environmental sustainability.
