The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystem-based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project has strengthened the resilience of vulnerable communities in Lao PDR by integrating sustainable water resources management with ecosystem-based adaptation approaches. Through climate-resilient infrastructure, including riverbank stabilization and flood protection measures, the project has significantly reduced the risks of flooding, riverbank erosion, soil degradation, and the loss of agricultural land, while safeguarding homes, livelihoods, and critical public assets. At the same time, the project has enhanced the capacity of national, provincial, and local authorities to implement integrated water resources management (IWRM), climate risk-informed planning, and inclusive water governance. By restoring and protecting river ecosystems, promoting nature-based solutions, and strengthening collaboration among government agencies, local communities, and development partners, the project has improved water security, environmental sustainability, and the adaptive capacity of vulnerable populations. Ultimately, the IWRM-EbA Project contributes to Lao PDR's long-term climate resilience by fostering sustainable river basin management, conserving vital ecosystems, and enabling communities to better withstand and adapt to the increasing impacts of climate change, ensuring a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future.
