Empowering Communities for Climate Resilience in Savannakhet Province
Project Location
TangArLaiNeua Village, Saveu village, MuangHong Village, KaengThamae Village and KaengHuaPa Village at Nong, Sepone, and Xonnabouly districts in order, Savannakhet Province, Laos
Project Description
The Integrated Water Resource Management and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project, implemented by the Department of Water Resources under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with support from UNDP Lao PDR, is being carried out in five villages across Nong, Sepone, and Xonnabouly districts of Savannakhet Province. From 4 to 21 May 2025, a series of community-based training sessions are taking place to support the practical application of Community Conservation Agreements (CCAs). These trainings are designed to strengthen local capacities in sustainable agriculture, climate-resilient practices, and natural resource conservation. Emphasizing hands-on learning and inclusive participation—particularly among women—the initiative engages over 140 community members in topics such as bio-fertilizer production, seed selection, and livestock management. By equipping local farmers with relevant tools and knowledge, the project contributes to enhancing food security, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental stewardship in the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin.
