The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystems-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project is a collaborative initiative led by UNDP Lao PDR in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). The project aims to enhance climate resilience and promote the sustainable management of land and water resources in two highly vulnerable regions: the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and Luang Prabang City. These areas are increasingly affected by extreme weather events, such as floods and droughts, which threaten both local communities and ecosystems.

To address these challenges, the IWRM-EbA Project takes a nature-based approach by integrating ecosystem conservation into water resource management. By preserving biodiversity, restoring natural ecosystems, and improving water infrastructure, the project helps regulate water flow, reduce flood risks, and maintain soil fertility—ensuring long-term environmental sustainability. At the same time, it directly benefits local communities by improving access to clean water, supporting sustainable agricultural practices, and empowering stakeholders to participate in resource management.

Through collaboration between government agencies, development partners, and local communities, the project strengthens climate resilience while ensuring a balance between environmental protection and socio-economic development. By combining scientific research, traditional knowledge, and community engagement, the IWRM-EbA Project is paving the way for a future where people and nature thrive together. 💦✨
