Project Board Meeting IWRM-EbA 2025

Project Location
Laotel, Vientiane Capital, Laos
Project Description
The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystems-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project is a collaborative initiative led by UNDP Lao PDR in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE). The project focuses on enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable management of land and water resources in the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and Luang Prabang City, two regions highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. By integrating ecosystem-based approaches, the project seeks to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events such as floods and droughts, which have become more frequent and severe in these areas. It emphasizes preserving biodiversity and restoring natural ecosystems, which play a vital role in regulating water flow, reducing flood risks, and maintaining soil fertility. At the same time, the project supports the livelihoods of vulnerable communities by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving water access, and empowering local stakeholders to actively participate in resource management. Through this holistic approach, the IWRM-EbA Project aims to build long-term climate resilience while ensuring that both environmental and socio-economic needs are met in a balanced and sustainable way.
Project Outcomes & Impacts
On 9 January 2025, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lao PDR, in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), successfully organized the Project Board Meeting for the Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystems-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) Project at the LaoTel Hotel, Vientiane Capital.

The Project Board Meeting recently convened to review the progress of the project, focusing on key achievements in 2024, the outcomes of the mid-term evaluation, and the proposed work plan for 2025. Participants engaged in insightful discussions, sharing valuable lessons learned and fostering a deeper understanding of activities aimed at reducing flood risks and enhancing water resource management at the community level. The meeting culminated in the approval of the 2025 work plan, ensuring a clear roadmap for the continued successful implementation of the project.

We are proud of the progress made and grateful to all who contributed to the project implementation as well as making this event a success. Together, we will create the integrated Solutions for flood and drought resilience in Lao PDR. 🌱💧
