Protecting and Restoring Forests for a Sustainable Future

Project Description
The IWRM-EbA Project, in collaboration with the Office of Natural Resources and Environment in XePon District, Savannakhet Province, is working closely with local communities to enhance the protection and sustainable management of key forest areas. This initiative focuses on surveying and clearly defining the boundaries of critical protection forests, including Xe XaLean, XeLaNong–PhouOng, XeChon, DongPhouVieng, and DongPhouSoun National Protected Forests. The project aims to develop accurate forest management maps, support improved environmental planning, and raise public awareness on sustainable forest practices. By involving community members and local stakeholders, the project promotes ownership and long-term conservation of these vital ecosystems. Scheduled to run until May 25, 2025, this effort contributes to national goals in forest protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.
Project Outcomes & Impacts
The IWRM-EbA Project in partnership with the Office of Natural Resources and Environment in XePon District, Savannakhet Province are working hand in hand with village and local communities to clearly define the boundaries of key protection forests:
📍 Xe XaLean National Protected Forest, XeLaNong–PhouOng National Protected Forest, XeChon Protected Forest, DongPhouVieng and DongPhouSoun National Protected Forest, in aiming to map and secure these forest areas in line with national laws and regulations.
🎯 Objectives:
• Survey and define the boundaries of key protection forests
• Develop forest management maps
• Support better forest and environmental protection planning
• Raise public awareness about sustainable forest management
