Restoring Forests & Celebrating Environmental Days for a Resilient Future

Project Location
MeungHong and NaJanYai Village, Xonnabouly District, Savannakhet Province
Project Description
The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (IWRM-EbA) project is dedicated to enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable management of natural resources in vulnerable areas, including the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and Luang Prabang City. By combining ecosystem-based approaches with integrated water resource management, the project supports local communities and authorities in adapting to climate change while protecting vital ecosystems.

In 2025, the IWRM-EbA project played a key role in supporting forest restoration and environmental awareness in Chonburi District, focusing on Ban NonSawang, Ban MuangHong, and Ban NajanYai villages. In collaboration with local government offices, the project facilitated the planting of over 9,000 native tree seedlings across 185 hectares of degraded forest land and mobilized communities for public cleanups and environmental education. These activities, held in celebration of National Arbor Day, World Water Day, and World Environment Day, highlight the project’s commitment to fostering inclusive community action for long-term environmental sustainability and climate adaptation.
Project Outcomes & Impacts
Restoring Forests & Celebrating Environmental Days for a Resilient Future πŸŒ³πŸ’§πŸŒ

πŸ“Ban Non Sawang, Ban Muang Hong & Ban Najan Yai β€” These 3 target villages in Chonburi District are taking bold steps to protect their natural resources under the Ecosystem-Based Water Resources Management and Adaptation Project, supported by UNDP and GEF(DWR) and implemented by DWR. In celebration of National Arbor Day, World Water Day, and World Environment Day 2025, the Office of Natural Resources and Environment and the District Office of Agriculture and Forestry coordinated a multi-day campaign with strong participation from local communities, students, and officials.

🌿 What happened?
βœ… 9,266 indigenous tree seedlings (Kham, Mai Khaen, Mai Nang) planted across 185.32 hectares of degraded forest land
βœ… Forest restoration in 3 key areas of Muang Hong village, including Xe Bang Hieng watershed zones and protected forest (cemetery) areas
βœ… Roadside cleanup from the local club to the market to promote cleanliness and beautify public spaces
βœ… Awareness-raising sessions on forest protection, water conservation, and the effects of climate change for students, youth, and residents

This effort not only highlights the importance of restoring ecosystems and managing water sustainably but also reinforces community-led action as a driving force for climate resilience.

Together, these activities mark a critical step forward in supporting sustainable development, protecting livelihoods, and fostering a green future for Chonburi District and beyond. πŸ’ͺ🌱
