Songkhone Celebrating World Water Day 2025
Project Location
Songkhone District, Savannakhet Province
Project Description
The Integrated Water Resources Management and Ecosystem-Based Adaptation in the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and Luang Prabang City (IWRM-EbA) Project continues its commitment to promoting sustainable water resource management and enhancing community resilience to climate change in Lao PDR. As part of its ongoing efforts, on April 25, 2025, the project collaborated with the Office of Natural Resources and Environment of SongKhone District and various partner organizations to organize a vibrant celebration of World Water Day under the global theme โGlacier Preservation.โ The event, held at the SongKhone District Administration Club in Savannakhet Province, was chaired by Mr. SiSaweuy, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, and Mr. Boulika, Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Savannakhet Province.
The celebration aimed to raise awareness among government officials, residents, and students about the vital role of water resources, forests, and ecosystems in daily life and the urgent need for conservation. Participants included district authorities, local community members, parents, teachers, and students from SongKhone High School, all coming together in a spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility. Activities featured inspiring literary performances by students from two secondary schools, focusing on the importance of water conservation and environmental stewardship.
The event concluded with a large-scale collective action, where participants engaged in cleaning ditches, drainage canals, and collecting waste across the main villages and surrounding areas, helping to improve water quality and create a cleaner, healthier environment. Through activities like these, the IWRM-EbA Project not only promotes sustainable environmental practices but also fosters a strong sense of community ownership and responsibility toward natural resource management. By encouraging education, participation, and hands-on action, the project is helping to build more climate-resilient, environmentally conscious communities in the Xe Bang Hieng River Basin and beyond.
